Saturday business......

This morning Lloyd and I went over to Trail Appliances to get an idea of how much the new kitchen appliances will cost. The guy that helped us was amazing...and he works with Andy from Apollo (the people building the extension).......so thats good to know. We looked at cook tops, islands, cabinetry etc as well as fridges, freezers, dishwashers, trash compactors (thanks again Heather that is going to make SUCH a big difference!!) and we've even worked in a built in coffee maker to go above the microwave...and maybe even a wine cooler....we saw some cabinets by a company called 'Peachwood' so we may see what else they do as they were really nice - and the glass they used was beautiful...it kind of looked like really old glass....not smooth.

The architect is coming on Tuesday afternoon and it will be interesting to see what she says because the roof line in the kitchen will be odd......a third of it will be in the old house so will have a lower/ average ceiling height...and then the new kitchen/ sunroom will have a half cathedral ceiling kind of thing......it will be interesting to see what she comes up with anyway :)

Talking to the guy at Trail and seeing all our options has given us a lot to think about.....and has made us even more excited about the new addition......they break ground at the end of September and say we should have our kitchen all finished (complete with the counter tops done) by Christmas :)

I think when we have the new kitchen done, we will close off the doorway between the hallway/ kitchen and the study...it will make the study quieter and more private and will also give it more wall space for book cases etc......

I'm really excited now about seeing it all done.......it's going to make such a difference here......it really is. The kitchen we have right now is horrible....half the drawers can't be used because the bottoms are falling out...the cupboard shelves are so old and look nasty.....the tile is all cracked and is pale blue and pink (I mean...OMG who chooses those colours for a kitchen???????)

The counter tops have melted spots on them where someone left a pot for too long.......the wndow is too high for me to see out of well....the lighting 'boxes' above the kitchen cupboards are so dated and has bits missing.....the edges of the counter tops are peeling and chipped.....

I knew we would have to wait until we could do the kitchen and I didn't mind the old kitchen for a few years...but it will be so good to have the new kitchen.......it's going to be so nice :) It's going to be about 27' x 27' so something like 730 sq ft :)

Its going to be a lovely place to display my kitchen aid mixer ;)

Happy Birthday Parker

We made this youtube video last night to send to Lloyds best friend over in Baghdad....the sound didn't work very well but he loved it...we got this message from him:

To the Thorpe family,

I have just opened my email in the office and am stuck for words to say how much this Happy Birthday song has made my day. I watched it five times through continuously and will watch and listen to it throughout the day. Haven't the girls grown!! Thank you Susannah and Abigail, you sang beautifully.

This is going to have to be how I comment on your blog ;)

Just wanted to say that its great that Scott did what he did for that lady and saved her from losing her home!!! Not many people go the extra mile for their clients! You have a good one there ;)

Also wanted to say - your first paragraph about 'subsidising'....I'm not sure if you are talking about what I think you are talking about....but if you are...then I TOTALLY agree......(not that you know what I think you are talking about lol!

Anyway...off to photograph hummers :)
