Science Thursday!

We headed to the Telus World of Science today. A had a blast there.....no idea what exactly she learned, but she had fun being surrounded by science all day :) In the body zone she spent quite a while on the balance machine and she enjoyed looking at the parts of the brain.......she enjoyed looking around the space station and she tried to steer the Mars Rover.....

We spent most of the afternoon in the discovery zones - A used the pump to fill the upper 'canal' to the point where it would overflow into the lower canals.....she also had fun with the bubble blowing basketball game and we learned about angles and how to blow at the correct angle to get the bubbles into the baskets....S was the perfect height already to get the bubbles in!

We used the wave machine and watched to see how high winds would cause the waves to crash higher onto the beach than a low breeze.......

A performed a play in the puppet theatre - it was about a lost polar bear and a lost porcupine who helped each other find their homes.....and then they met a sting ray :)

A bought a ball in the store there and spent much of the evening practicing catching with the ball.

Before we left for the Science centre, A sat at the table and drew lots of pictures and did quite a bit of colouring. She is really enjoying her art work right now.

Oh and another thing we are doing.....A is keeping a book log -0 she has a book and each day she picks one of the books we read and she draws a picture from the book and then writes the book title underneath...so she will ahve a record of many of the books we read. Yesterday it was 'There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly'!

Discovery Zone fun......

Having fun in the discovery rooms - Abigail and Sam would spend all day in there quite happily!

Star Wars Exhibit...

Some of the scenes from the Star Wars Exhibit....

I took Chris's camera and the batteries were dead and it wasn't working very well so apologies for the bad pictures today!

For Dad....

I showed Abigail this artificial ball joint and explained that my dad has something similar in his shoulder now!

Telus World of Science......

Today we headed to Telus World of Science...the local science centre. We decided to get an annual membership again. We had one last year, and I wasn't going to renew because the older three were all bored with the exhibits rarely changing.

Sam and Abigail love it there though......they could play in the Discovery Zone all day if you let them!

We left home at 10am and when we got there we signed up for the membership which involved Abby and I having our pictures taken for our new cards. Then we headed to the Body Zone, where Abigail sat on a tongue, learned about balance and made music from farts...oh, AND squeezed a giant spot until the puss came out :) we all squeezed some hand bars too to see how strng we could be and we managed to light up the bulbs quite high when we worked together!

After that we headed into the crime investigation room - where you can learn about forensic tools, sit on a police motorbike and make the lights on the cop car flash :)

In there we were also able to print our fingerprints onto paper to bring home! And we could go in this little dark room to see the stamps on our twenty-dollar bills light up!

Upstairs to see the Star Wars exhibit - all made from Lego. Sam played in the kids zone in there - basically a room full of Lego for little ones to build with - and while he was busy in there, Abby and I sat in their little library section and read all the books about the planets and stars...they have some childrens fiction to read as well as adult books on space....

After that we went tot he cafe for lunch. They ahd no milk (?????) and no sandwiches or anything even half healthy left...so we shared a bag of chips (crisps) and each had a muffin and some apple juice. I wish they did more food there but I guess some days they don't have a need for it as it can be quiet there during the week.

There were two school classes at the science centre when we arrived, butu soon after they left and we had the whole place to ourselves! It was so quiet!

After lunch we went back upstairs and spent the rest of the time in the Discovery Zones.....Abby and Sam had a blast in the water tables - and then Abigail went onto the piano to dance while Sam and I were in the Construction Zone - we built a house and walls and tunnels and Sam had fun knocking them all down. That room is basically a whole room filled with giant sized Lego blocks, foam bricks and wooden trains etc....Sam loves it there!

Abigail put on a puppet show for me and Sam danced on the piano for a while. then we had a quick walk through the space section before heading to the store. Lloyd had told them they could each pick a little toy there, so Abby picked a ball and Sam picked a magnetic little car that drives up the fridge (or in our case the oven as our fridge isn't magnetic)

I also bought a magnet set for Abigail to use for 'science'....

Then we headed home.....it wasn't long before Sam was fast asleep and then soon after, Abigail was also asleep :) I guess they had a good day!

Now Lloyd is home and we are getting ready to go out as it's date night. I have no clue what we are doing though!

Jennifer - I will keep checking your blog for an update on your Mom. I've been thinking of you!

Val - I hope you are feeling better now! It was nice to speak to you this morning! If for some reason your day with C is cancelled tomorrow, then you'd be welcome to join us when we go to Parent Link!!! I won't be there too long as I just want to see Samantha and let the children play for a little while - but your little guy would have a blast! And its free and there are coffee and snacks :)
